Welcome to the New Haven Islamic Center School Weekend Program
in collaboration with Masjid Al-Islam

Weenkend School Program

The following are the subjects that we teach and a description of the books that we use:

  • Quran:
    • Memorization and Tajweed (pronunciation rules) of the holy book.

  • Islamic Studies:
    • I Love Islam is a series of Islamic studies textbooks that gradually introduces Muslim students to the essentials of their faith and bring to light historic and cultural aspects of Islam. Each book of the series is designed to emphasize the aspects of Islam which are appropriate for the grade level. The series cover grades one through twelve and include a student textbook and workbook, as well as a teacher's edition.

  • Arabic:
    • The objective is to make learning Arabic more easily achievable and enjoyable for students. Level One lays firm foundations necessary for students to develop language proficiency in the future. The alphabet is introduced using fun illustrations. Students are encouraged to use the correct pronunciation.
    • There is a gradual introduction of the vowels and basic vocabulary. Students begin to perform the "tajreed" of the letters and learn how they are used in different words.
    • Nasheed sections combine enjoyment with education. Oral drills using short sentences allow students to begin developing their spoken language skills.
